This month Sassy Girl Weekly is doing something a little different. Instead of highlighting a singular figure as the ‘Feminist of the Month’, Sassy Girl Weekly is choosing a ‘Movement of the Month’. The idea behind this is to encourage each and every one of you to either volunteer for, or in this case donate to, the movement of choice. As the election is getting closer and closer, there is so much to do to ensure Joe Biden and Kamala Harris win the 2020 presidential election. This month’s Movement of the Month is an organization called Defeat By Tweet.
What is it?
Defeat By Tweet is an organization that donates money… every time Donald Trump tweets. The individual sets an amount of money they are willing to donate each time Trump posts a tweet. For example, you can set an amount of 10 cents a tweet or if you’re feeling extra magnanimous, you can set an amount of $100 a tweet! WARNING: you probably don’t want to set an amount to donate that is over a couple of dollars per tweet because Trump has no life and sometimes tweets 200 times a day.
Wow, that is awesome! But where is my money really going?
The money that you donate per tweet gets distributed amongst grassroots organizations in swing states. Did I mention that those grassroots organizations are Black-led organizations? You are not only helping voters vote democratic in 9 different swing states, but you are also supporting a Black-led organization.
If you’re still worried that Trump will go on a tweeting spree and you will have no money left, don’t be. You can set a donation max limit per each month and it will reset the following month. Donald Trump has made severe efforts to steal the 2020 presidential election; he has done everything he could to prevent voting by mail and he nor his administration can even assure the American people that there will be a “peaceful transfer of power”. It is very obvious that even if the Democrats win, our work regarding changing the system will be not done. With that said, if you sign up with Defeat By Tweet, your donations will continue past November 3rd.
This organization is not only a brilliant idea, but it is very affordable and achievable. Currently, Defeat By Tweet has set a fundraising goal of $5 million, as of Monday, September 28th, they have raised $2,523,750. Let’s help them reach $5 million. Let’s help defeat misogyny.
