Allocate Your Funds, Hun!

My stomach turned and my heart sank when I watched an Afghan lift his newborn into the air. He hoped that when the armed U.S. soldier, who stood above them, grabbed his baby, freedom, protection, and a new life would be the only reality his baby ever experienced.

I gulped as I watched search and rescue teams pull children out of Haitian rubble. That rubble contained their life, dreams, and--now--the memory of them.

My pulse accelerates as I read headlines that confirm my worst nightmare: the restrictions of BOTH voting rights and women’s rights in 2021. With the midterm elections fast approaching, we must do our part to ensure every eligible American has the right to vote.

I feel breathless watching ICUs and ICU nurses decompensate in their exhaustion. Headaches and stress overpower my psyche.

And actively witnessing my planet deteriorate causes my brown hair to go gray. I am just 17.

At the moment, it feels like I can think of nothing other than the tragedies occurring around the world. I am overwhelmed. I am heartbroken. But, I am so unbelievably fortunate to leave my house without fear of being shot due to my gender, something millions of women and girls in Afghanistan cannot confidently say. Although I feel like crawling into a ball and crying, I know help is needed. Currently, help is needed everywhere. Money is needed. Awareness is needed. Affirmative action is needed. So, I am going to make this as easy as possible for you.

Below is a master list of organizations and foundations to support. The list is broken up by cause, allowing you to support those you feel most passionate about. While there are free ways to help out, financial help is the fastest way to make an impact. Acknowledging that not everyone is able to financially contribute, I encourage you to take advantage of the free resources I’ve provided. These contributions may feel so minuscule in the grand scheme of things, but trust the phrase “a little goes a long way,” because, in this context, it couldn’t be closer to the truth. And, in times where we lack control, helping out can be the only cure to our helplessness.
